Patricia,

My heart aches for you. I cannot imagine the sadness you must feel at losing your loving husband, Herb. I was blessed to know Herb and serve with him in the Army Reserve. I will never forget the years we served together and hung out together. He loved the Army. Few topics could energize him more than the US Army,

Herb was brilliant. He was a funny kind of brilliant though. He was so smart that someone once said he could never win Jeopardy unless they played it backward and asked him the Million dollar questions first and the hundred dollar questions last. He seemed to know everything! And, he knew everything about everything- all the detailed information that nobody else on earth would know. But it was the way he delivered his knowledge that made him special. Herb was hilarious!

I can see Herb's face as I type this. He's taking that deep breath as he gears up for that story that only he could tell in that special way that only he could tell it. Herb always made me laugh. I will miss you my brother and friend.

I can only imagine the smile on God's face as He welcomed his sweet, loving son home.
