Michael Alan Craft, 70, of West Columbia passed away on Sunday morning, April 7, 2024. Mike was the husband of the late Deneen Sharpe Craft and they enjoyed 21 years of a loving marriage, except when his Carolina Gamecocks took on the Georgia Bulldogs.
Born on October 28, 1953, in Orangeburg, SC, Mike was the son of Claudia Knight Craft and the late Roy Kenneth Craft. He graduated from Orangeburg High School in '71, later pursuing studies at the University of South Carolina before embarking on a longstanding career with Carolina Eastman/DAK, where he contributed diligently until his valiant battle with cancer necessitated a step back from work. Mike demonstrated remarkable resilience, triumphing over cancer not once, but twice. While he was often characterized by his hearty laughter, warm smile, and occasional gruffness, those closest to him knew him as a gentle giant at heart.
Renowned as an avid golfer, Mike was affectionately known as "Chainsaw" on the golf course. He relished friendly poker matches, renowned for his inscrutable "poker face" that left opponents guessing his next move. An avid sports enthusiast, he held a special place in his heart for the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Mike was preceded in death by his beloved wife Deneen Sharpe Craft; father Roy Kenneth Craft and brother Richard (Blazey) Craft.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted mother, Claudia Knight Craft; his loving daughter, Carly Craft Oliver, and her husband Richie; and his cherished grandchildren, Bryson and Kinley Oliver, whom he adored beyond measure. He is also survived by his brothers Lon Fleenor and Russell Craft, along with several nieces and nephews.
Carly extends her heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nurses and doctors of Prisma Baptist Hospital who cared for her father in his final months, as well as the dedicated healthcare professionals at Agape Center's hospice house, who ensured his comfort in his last days. Special thanks are also extended to friends, especially Brenda Fisher, for their unwavering support over the years.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Mike's life at Moseley Funeral & Cremation Service.
