Barbara Elaine Bowers Ahl, 74, West Columbia, SC (originally of Newberry, SC), passed away Sept. 25,
2017, peacefully in her sleep. She was born to the late Edna Rollins and Thurmond L. Bowers. She was a sister to the late Peggy Bowers Geiger also of Newberry.
Barbara graduated Newberry High School 1961 before she attended Columbia School for Surgical
Technicians at Baptist Hospital where she worked and earned her Operating Room Nursing Training in
1963. She moved her family to Marietta, GA where she continued her education at Kennesaw Junior
(et.al. State) College. There she earned an A.S. in Nursing 1974 and become a R.N. She later attended
the University of South Carolina where she proudly earned her B.A. degree 1986.
Barbara is survived by her only child Dawn M. Ahl. She also leaves behind a lot of caring relatives and
friends. Her daughter wishes to thank all of those who cared for her over the past many years. Because
Barbara was a liver transplant recipient of 25 years you can celebrate her life by donating your organs to
SC Organ Procurement Agency (SCOPA) or make a donation to your local animal shelter in her honor.

Dawn

I'm so sorry for your loss. Like you said she is no longer in pain and I can bet Barbara,Peggy and Linda are rejoicing in haven. I can only image the trouble they give the angels. We love you and continue to have you in our prayers.

Dawn, I had the pleasure of going to elementary, middle and high school with your mom. I remember Barbara as outgoing, happy and very active. As a read her obituary, I was deeply touched to learn that she was a liver transplant recipient. No doubt she was a tough, strong lady to have endured that major hurdle. May God bless you with His love, strength, courage and peace as you grieve the loss of your precious mother. Most sincerely, Marny Bouknight Sanders

Dawn, I am saddened by your loss. Many, many years ago, your Mom and I double-dated (do kids still do that??)? She was lots of fun and was what we call here in Montana 'a straight shooter'. If I am correct, she went through heart surgery in New Orleans when she was young - so she was indeed a fighter. May the Lord bless you and yours!
