A memorial service to celebrate the life of John Mundy Glisson, 77, of Sumter, SC, will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 10, 2017 in the chapel of Moseley Funeral & Cremation Service at 914 Meeting St., West Columbia.  Chaplain Mark Bredholt will officiate. The family will receive friends at the home of John's sister - Gayle Gay immediately following the service. 

 

John died Friday, June 2, 2017 after a battle with cancer. He was born in Hartsville, SC, the second son of the late Felix Adams Glisson and Ester Teresa Dixon Glisson. After his retirement from Auto Mechanics and School Maintaince, he enjoyed Flea Markets, Antiques and Auctions.  He was well known in Sumter area as he had been - for many years - an active vendor at Hiway 378 Sumter Flea Market.   He attended school in Hartsville, SC in his early years and then John Del-A-Howe School in McCormick Cty.  He attended the Church of God in Sumter. 

 

John is survived by his loving lifetime companion, Jean Lasnier; daughter, Susie Glisson; step-children, Jamie, Chris, and “Bobby” Robert; step-grandchildren, Addison and Katherine; siblings, Felix Glisson (Annette) of Dawsonville Ga, Faye Hagan (Terry) of Horrell Hills, SC, Gayle Gay of West Columbia, SC; and his sister-in-law, Darlene Glisson of Memphis, Tenn. and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews as well as grand-children. He was well loved and will be missed by those who knew him.

 

John was predeceased by his brother, Jim Glisson - by his sisters, Patricia Simpson and Peggy Rhymes - by two nephews Christopher A Glisson and Lewis Mark Gay Jr - and two half-sisters of Richmond, Va. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.
