Walter Eugene “Gene” Grigsby

Walter Eugene (Gene) Grigsby 79 passed away on May 17, 2022, at his Lake Murray home in Gilbert, South Carolina.  A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Cayce United Methodist Church, Cayce, South Carolina. Visitation will be held at the church at 2:00 p.m., prior to the service. Gene graduated from Brookland Cayce High School.  He retired from the University of S.C. as a Physical Plant maintenance, campus manager. He was a member of Cayce United Methodist Church where he had displayed a servant’s heart. He served two terms as Master of his lodge and was a 55-year mason.  Gene was a “people” person and enjoyed people wherever he went.  His hobbies over the years included hunting, fishing, and shrimping.  He loved cooking with the “Old Geezers” cooking group and cooking for his church, his lodge, City of Cayce, and Epworth Children’s Home’s annual fundraiser, having won 1st place for his barbeque.  Above all Gene loved being “Papa” to his adoring grandchildren. He is predeceased in death by his father William Bryant Grigsby; mother, Sadie Lenore Branham Grigsby; brother, William Bryant Grigsby, Jr.; and sister, Willie Mae Grigsby Spires.  Gene is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda Amick Grigsby; son, Walter Eugene Grigsby, Jr (Angela Swinney Grigsby);grandchildren, Noah Michael Grigsby, Adalin June Grigsby and Asher Gideon Grigsby; and many nieces and nephews.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cayce United Methodist Church or Shriners Hospital for Children.  The service can also be viewed by accessing the church website and their Facebook link:  https://www.facebook.com/cayceumc/ .
