Thomas "Tom" Brightwell died June 17 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital. Tom was born September 9, 1955 in Seaford, Delaware. He was the second son of Robert and Helen Brightwell. Tom attended East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC, and later graduated from Appalachian State University. He held many jobs and pursued many career paths, including co-owner of TAM's Tavern, a successful restaurant in Rock Hill, SC. He also taught school, installed satellite systems and drove for Uber.
Tom was a talented musician. He played bass, guitar, drums and keyboards. He idolized Paul McCartney and once shook his hand after a show. He was also a skilled handyman and a marvelous cook.
Among his family and friends, many of whom date back to childhood, Tom was known for his sense of humor. He was always willing to listen to others and provide advice and ideas, and his friends will miss the hours-long phone conversations they used to share.
Tom was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Ellen, three children, Chris Brightwell (Ashley) of Navarre Beach, FL, Hannah and Casey, of the home, five grandchildren, and his two brothers, Andy Brightwell and Matt Brightwell.
Cremation arrangements are being handled by Moseley's Funeral Home in West Columbia, SC. The memorial service will be private for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a favorite charity in Tom's name.
