Obituary
Thomas Ray Gilbert, Jr., 98, of Gilbert, S.C., passed away on March 19, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, in the chapel of Moseley Funeral & Cremation Service. Burial, with full military honors, will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at 12:00 noon at Beaufort National Cemetery.
Mr. Gilbert was born on May 3, 1924, in Hopewell, Virginia. He was the son of the late Thomas Ray Gilbert, Sr., and Marian Robinson Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert enjoyed spending time with friends and family and was of the Methodist faith. In 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army and fought during WWII with the 82nd Airborne Division. Mr. Gilbert also fought in the Battle of the Bulge. In 1946, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and fought in the Korean War. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1964 as a very proudand decorated Master Sergeant.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gilbert is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lois Jean Gilbert, son, Thomas Ray Gilbert, III, daughter, Shari Jean Pierson and grandson, William Benton. Survivors include two sons, William Gilbert (Susie) and Dan Gilbert (Lynne);grandchildren, William Gilbert, Jr., Cameron Gilbert, David Miller, Tommy Benton, and four great-grandchildren.
