Sybil Jane Whetstone Gleaton
West Columbia - Graveside services for Sybil Gleaton, 81, of 201 Parkwood Court, West Columbia, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at Clinton United Methodist Church, 332 Hollow Creek Road in Salley, South Carolina. An one hour visitation with the family afterwards will be available. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Clinton United Methodist church, where she had many fond memories of homecomings and her family there.
Sybil Gleaton died on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Lexington Medical Center. Born in North in Orangeburg County on January 23, 1939 to Hugh Edison and Marjorie King Whetstone. Granddaughter of Clarence Townsend and Ida Mae Poole Whetstone of Salley; George Johnson and Sarah Estelle Reed King of North.
Sybil was a graduate of North High School and Columbia Commercial College. She was a charter member of the Lexington Toastmasters Club. She won many awards and recognitions with Princess House from 1978-1983 to include but not limited to “Most Inspiring Organizer” and multiple awards for “Most Improved Area.” She was The Senior Division Sales Manager of Parklane Jewelry Corporation for six years where Sybil recruited and trained sales associates. In 1989 she began her next adventure as a sales associate with J.B. White (Dutch Square Mall) and Belk (Columbiana Mall) where servicing the customer was first and foremost. She helped create an exciting, uplifting department in which to work and shop. Sybil loved her friends, co-workers and her family very deeply.
Sybil enjoyed reading about historical figures; writing about her childhood experiences and “What’s For Supper,” and her family history. She loved to travel and had an artist’s heart. She was known for her generosity, acts of kindness; and able to see the good in almost anyone.
Surviving are daughters, Tonia A. Gleaton, West Columbia, Stephanie A. Anderson (Wade), Richmond, Va; son, Allen E. Gleaton, Jr.(Stacy) West Columbia; sister Jennifer Whetstone Kavolousky (Andy); Spencer King Whetstone (Angela); seven grandchildren; Austin Hayes, Jackson Gleaton, Grant Gleaton, Addison Gleaton, Ryan Gleaton, Madeleine Anderson, and Carter Anderson; and many special cousins.
