Shirley Anne Evans Worrell, 85, of Columbia, SC, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on May 2, 2022.
On April 5, 1937, she was born in Sumter County to the late James Oscar and Catherine Jane Hodge Evans. She grew up on a farm with her family until she graduated from Sherwood High School in 1954. She continued her education at SC Baptist College for Nurses and graduated in 1957.
In 1957, Shirley met and married the love of her life, Luther Willard Worrell, Jr. They spent most of their married life in Columbia, SC. Shirley left nursing to work alongside her husband. She was partner and co-owner of Auto Recovery Bureau and Eastside Paint & Body Shop. Shirley retired in 2006. She loved to read poetry, spend time with family, and cook. Shirley was a farm girl at heart. Thus, gardening was a passion. Shirley was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church, where she served as the Woman’s Missionary Union Director, a member of the Helping Hands committee, and enjoyed the sweet fellowship of her Sunday school class. Shirley was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She treasured her daughters and loved her role as “Bicabah” to 7 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Tammy (Bill) Herring, Robin (Steve) Cox, Kathryn Anne (Leon) Millholland; grandchildren, Emily (Chad) Rainwater, Scott (Micaela) Brewer, Jacob (Katarina) Brewer, Benjamin (Paige) Herring, Andrew Cox, Sarah Kate Brewer, and Abigail Cox; great-granddaughter, Savannah Brewer; sisters-in-law, Cecile Evans, Rebecca Hawkins, brother-in-law, James Oscar Baker, Jr. and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, her parents, and her siblings and their spouses, James (Pauline) Evans Jr., Allean (Clarence) Ross, Ferrell Ashley Evans, Bobby Evans, and Richard Charles Evans, Sr. She always said she looked forward to joining them in heaven for a family reunion.
