Samuel S. Jackson, Sr., 77, of Pelion, has gone home to be with his Lord. Mr. Sammy, as he was affectionately known by many, was married to Beverly Bodie Jackson, his high school sweetheart for 54 years and their love story is one for the ages. His love and adoration for Beverly was the one thing that never wavered throughout his declining health.

Mr. Sammy, a man of very few words but many selfless actions, also loved the Clemson Tigers and his country dearly. He graduated from Clemson University in 1968 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He then left for service in the US Army and served 2 years in Vietnam as Construction Engineering Unit Commander. Mr. Sammy had a long and distinguished career as an engineer with the SC Department of Transportation. He enjoyed farming, antique tractor pulling, was always an active member in the Pelion community and loved baseball. Heplayed for Pelion High in the 1960s when they were runners up to the state champions and then coached his sons and their friends for years in the Pelion Athletic Program (PAP). In his later years he was a very active member of the Lexington County veterans group.

Mr. Sammy is survived by his wife Beverly, his children Sam Jackson, Jr. (Heather) and Andy Jackson (Valerie); Grandchildren Sam Jackson, III (Mollie), Tim Jackson (Katelyn), Lyndsey Chavous (H.B.), Aubrey Hite (Ashley); and four great-grandchildren; Mr. Sammy had a large extended family who loved him and will miss him very much.

The family is asking that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Colonial Gardens Alzheimer’s Special Care Center (checks made payable to Sunshine Retirement Living), 3565 Sunset Boulevard, West Columbia, SC 29169. The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the staff at both Lakeside memory care and Colonial Gardens for their compassion and care of Mr. Sammy. The family also express their love and appreciation to Kristalyn Poole for her months of love and care.

The family can be visited prior to the services at the home of Andy and Valerie Jackson, 1140 Fairview Road, Pelion, SC 29123.
