Michael Shane McCandless

Michael Shane McCandless, 52 of Hopkins, SC passed away May 2, 2023. Mike made friends with people all over the world during his journey in life. He was a caring, compassionate, and generous person who never met a stranger. Mike always made time for others in need of a helping hand. His wonderful sense of humor always brought a smile to anyone fortunate enough to spend time with him.

Mike worked as a mechanical technician, traveling all over for everything from geological surveys to turbine engines at power plants to offshore oil rigs. He could repair anything from a chainsaw to a house sized compressor.

Mike and his wife Shea moved to Hopkins, SC from Fort Worth TX in 2021. They enjoyed their new rural lifestyle with their animals and land. Mike was a loving and devoted husband. He enjoyed golfing, guns, gambling and gardening. Mike could make the perfect golf shot (sometimes), hit the smallest target, win on any slot machine or make any seed grow.

He loved his family, as they loved him.

He will be deeply missed by his wife Shea; stepsons Taylor, Tristan and Trenton; mother and stepfather Mary and Joseph Thoma; brother Gabriel Hockett with wife Tiffany. Brother and sister-in-law Jason & Janet Emory, David & Gale Emory, Roband Robin Mathews. Nieces and nephews, Taylor “Boxcar kid” Miller, J.D. Emory, Justin Emory, Malerie Crowder, Kyle Emory, Kourtney Williams, Natalia Hockett, Brenton Michael Hockett as well as his loyal fur quartette: Ellie, Boomer, Sasha and Red.

He has joined his beloved Grandma and Grandpa Edna and Orville Mccandless and nephew Gavin Hockett.
