Lillian Lanell Williford Witt, CACYE - “Nell” Witt 94, died Wednesday, September 14th in Blythewood, surrounded by the loving care of her family. Born February 11th, 1928, Nell was one of eight children to parents John David and Lourena Estella Smart Williford of Waycross, GA. In the fall of 1946, Nell met a “young man just back from the war” at a dance on the pier in Jacksonville Beach, FL and in six weeks, they were married. Together, she and husband, William Henry “Bill” Witt settled in Jacksonville Beach where they had two children, Donna Jeanne Witt (Miller) and William Henry “Boo” Witt. In 1966, the Witt’s moved to Cayce, SC where Nell and Bill lived out their 70+ years together. In addition to her duties as homemaker, Nell was a long-time beloved salesperson at Macy’s on Main Street in Columbia thanks to her kind disposition and keen sense of style. Perpetually grateful, Nell’s greatest assets was her positive attitude, kindness of spirit, and unending capacity to love. She always felt blessed. In her own words, “We never had much growing up, but I always felt rich with love. I’ve been so blessed to have such loving people in my life.”
Nell is predeceased by her parents, siblings, husband, children, and grandson, William Russell Prince. She is survived by her doting grandsons, William Michael and William Scott Prince (Ann), and great-grandchildren Andrew, Anna, David, Jacob, and Jordan. A Celebration Of Life will be held at 2pm on Sunday, September 19th at Cayce United Methodist Church, 1600 12th St, Cayce, SC 29033 and streamed live at facebook.com/cayceumc. Guests will be received in the Fellowship Hall immediately following.
