James Johnson

James Monroe “Bill” Johnson, Sr.  90 of West Columbia died Saturday morning, September 23, 2023, at the VA Victory House in Walterboro.

Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday afternoon, September 30, 2023, graveside at Southland Cemetery in West Columbia and interment will follow. In leu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors or American Heart Association.

Mr. Johnson was born in Conway, South Carolina, August30, 1933, a son of the late Viola Cribb Johnson and Fleming Johnson.   He was a graduate of Conway High School, served in the U.S Army and retired from a local wholesale company. In retirement, he enjoyed sitting on his front porch, walking, telling stories and joking with family and friends. 

In addition to his parents and wife Shirley Mae Johnson, he was predeceased by four brothers: Jerry, Benjamin “Sport”, Luther “Jake”, and Paul Johnson; three sisters: Nealie Warren, Georgia Mae Johnson, and Effie Richardson: daughter Sylvia Metz and son James M. Johnson.

Surviving are sisters: Ruth Inman, Bertha Jones, Diane Smallwood, sons Harry (Erana), Ricky (Twyla) and daughter Annette Bianchi (Marion): nine (9) grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
