James Griffin Crumpler
October 29, 1964 - November 14, 2022
Cayce, South Carolina - Jamie passed early in the morning of November 14, 2022, surrounded with the love of his family after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
The only son of Jim Lewis and Dorothy Crumpler, Jamie grew up with a love of everything outdoors and everything mechanical. He went on to be a Master ASE and Master General Motors Technician (specializing in Oldsmobiles) with Jim Hudson Automotive Group for 25 years prior to his current career with the United States Postal Service as the Lead Technician for the Columbia Processing and Distribution Center's Vehicle Fleet Maintenance Department.
He always smiled, always was willing to help others in any way he could and was everyone's friend.
He loved his garden and could always be found planting orphan plants from Lowes that were about to die, weeding, or rearranging plants to make a more beautiful space. He also loved tinkering in his garage at home, fixing odds and ends, rescuing discarded items off the street and repurposing them, as well as collecting mid-century coffee makers, cream and sugar sets, and really, just about anything else. He and Chuck loved spending a Saturday poking around thrift stores looking for treasures.
Jamie is survived by the wife of his first marriage, Karen Crumpler, and his three daughters, whom were the joy of his life "his three girls", Dorothy Darlene Porter (Tracey), Jacquelyn Crumpler-Storey, and Candace Gibert (Tyler). He also loved his six grands: Gwendolyn, Trey, Lexi, Aaron, Gaige, and Aria.
As with so many men of his generation, Jamie struggled with his true identity until his early 40's. Later, after finding and accepting himself, he married the next love of his life, his husband, Chuck Crumpler.
Family has always been important to Jamie. In the last weeks of his life, he was so happy to plan his youngest daughter's wedding and be able to walk her down the aisle.
Jamie and Chuck made plans for a green burial for themselves. Jamie's service will be held on Thursday, November 17 at 1pm. It will take place at Dust to Dust Green Burial/Nature Reserve Cemetery, 205 Nulty Crossing, Swansea, SC 29160. (Dusttodustcemetary.com)
It is a closed casket ceremony because it is a green ceremony. Jamie will be buried in his favorite pair of jeans, the pink shirt he walked Candace down the aisle in, just last week, and his beloved cowboy boots. Please dress casually for the service, jeans and t-shirts are fine. Jamie would not want people all "gussied up" for him.
As it is a green burial, no flowers please. Instead, we ask that you plant a garden, or a tree in Jamie's memory. Alternatively, you may consider a donation to MIRCI (Mental Illness Recovery Center Inc.) in Jamie's Memory. MIRCI is Chuck's employer who have been more than gracious and generous in allowing Chuck to be Jamie's full time care giver these last few months. MIRCI (and Chuck) work to create pathways to emotional and social well-being for persons with severe mental illness, who most often experience homelessness as well. (MIRCI.org)
