A Requiem Mass for the repose of the soul of Helen T. Spencer will be celebrated at the Church of the Good Shepherd (Episcopal), 1512 Blanding Street, Columbia on Thursday, January 26 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow the Memorial Garden, after which there will be a visitation in the parish hall
Helen was born in Attapulgus, Georgia on March 15, 1931 to Mattie E. Tryon and James F. Tryon. Among the things she enjoyed was going to the Jacobs family reunion, shopping for antiques, viewing fine art prints and going to flea markets. Her hobbies included organizing her expansive photograph collection and she was an avid book reader. She was also devoted to the Church of the Good Shepherd, which was her parish church for many years.
During her working years she was employed at the Carolina Theater, the Columbia Hotel and the Wade Hampton Hotel.
Helen was predeceased by her parents and her survivors include Linda R. Lewis (daughter), Mike Spencer (stepson) and his wife Sharon, Judy Brown (stepdaughter), Jimmy Fincher (nephew) and his family, Meresa Fincher (niece) and her late husband Lew, Barbara Pastor (niece) and her family, Linda D. Hickox (cousin) and Gene Jacobs (cousin).
Helen's beloved extended family includes Tyrone Wilson and his family, Wayne Thomas, Reggie Hopkins, Kendall Wheeler and his family, Sonya Sitton, Sherry Driggers and numerous Great Nieces and Great Great Nieces and Great Nephews and Great Great Nephews.
Great appreciation is extended to the Heart of Hospice and their staff for the excellent care given to Helen.
