Aletta Jane Mullins LaCarter, born November 1, 1929, in Narrows, Virginia, died April 10, 2022, at Prisma Richland Hospital.
Aletta was the seventh of eight children born to Martha Jane Mullins and Jesse James Mullins.
She met her husband, Raymond Louis LaCarter (deceased) in Narrows as he traveled through Virginia playing semi-professional baseball. Most of their 42 years of marriage were spent in Columbia, where they raised their three children.
Aletta and Ray were Charter members of Northeast Presbyterian church. Their church family was an important part of their lives. Aletta served in many roles at Northeast Presbyterian church and was always surrounded by her beloved, life long friends.
She was a talented and creative woman who enjoyed making beautiful things.
Aletta was predeceased by her parents and six of her seven siblings. She is survived by her brother, Roger Clayton Mullins(Patricia) of Salem, Virginia.
She was predeceased by her husband Raymond Louis LaCarter.
Those left to treasure her memory are her three children, Sharon L. Chase (Steve), Steven B. LaCarter (Ann), Chris L. Kleckley (Joseph); her grandchildren, Stephen H. Chase Jr. (Jillian), Ray LaCarter Chase, Alison Kleckley Gauthier (Nate), Taylor LaCarter Harris (Rob) and her two great-granddaughters, Brynlee and Audrey Gauthier. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Special mention must be made for the loving care given to Aletta by her daughter Chris, and wonderful husband, Joseph, with whom she lived for the last 8 years of her life.
With their loving care and attention, Aletta’s golden years were filled with love, laughter and tenderness.
