William C. Haynes

On Monday, August 26, 2019, William C. “Billy” Haynes passed away at the age of 65 after a hard-fought, four-year battle with cancer. Billy is survived by his two sons and two grandchildren, Nathanial and Matthew with his wife Abigail and their two children - McKenzie and Rowan- all of Long Beach, California. He is also survived by the mother of his two sons, Teresita, also of Long Beach. Billy is most especially survived by many friends and adopted family around the Midlands of South Carolina.

Billy was born on October 2, 1953 in Sendai, Japan; son of Austin and Connie Haynes. He grew up and lived a great deal of his life in Long Beach, California. Billy enlisted in the United States Army as an Infantryman during the Vietnam War Era and served as a trainer at the Jungle Operations Training Center in Panama. Billy was a man of many talents, including martial artist and baseball player in his youth, customs broker, and long-distance truck driver. He enjoyed seeing many parts of the United States and indulging in local cuisine. Besides being an adventurous eater, he was a tremendous cook and loved to feed people. Billy enjoyed spending time at Lake Murray & Cherokee, fishing, watching football, basketball & baseball (especially Los Angeles Lakers and LA Dodgers).

A long-time South Carolina resident, he was well loved and esteemed by many friends and adopted family around the Midlands of South Carolina. Billy spent a lot of time and energy in service to others, especially to his brothers and sisters in the program going through recovery. His giving heart and listening ear have been a source of comfort to countless friends over the years in many ways. His South Carolina family would like to thank physicians and staff at Lexington Medical Center and Lexington Oncology for taking wonderful care of him over the last 4 years.

His Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held at Hope Lutheran Church 1400 Kennerly Road in Irmo, South Carolina on Friday, September 13, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. The service which begins at 7:00 p.m. will be followed by fellowship and sharing in Hope’s Fellowship Hall.
