Vera Porter

Vera Porter died Saturday March 2, 2024, after a courageous battle with dementia.

She was born January 6, 1936, in Albemarle County, Virginia.

She was retired from Anheuser-Busch Corp. in Williamsburg, Virginia.

She was a lifelong member of Warwick Baptist Church; Eastern Star Emera, Chapter No. 31; Disabled American Veterans, Chapter No. 2; and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mrs. Porter was predeceased by the love of her life, Sgt. Major Sonley H. Porter, and by her eldest son, Sonley H. Porter, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter Ava Porter Duane and her husband Thomas J. Duane, of Prosperity, South Carolina; her son Sgt. 1st Class Stanley H. Porter, and his wife Deborah Porter, of Waynesville, MO; and her son Shawn Porter of Newport News, VA. She leaves four grandchildren: Thomas F. Duane and his wife Evan, of Quincy MA; Kelly Duane McDole and her husband, JD, of Leesville, SC; Master Sergeant Jonathan S. Porter and his wife Amber, of Tinker Air Force Base, OK;  and Major Christopher M. H. Porter, of Hulburt Field, FL.  She also leaves seven great granddaughters: Isabella McDole, Savannah McDole, Kylin Porter, Bella Porter, Ellie May Porter, Dylan Ava Duane, and Addie Jane McDole.

She is also survived by her brother Fred Cronk and his wife, Eloise, of Troy, VA.; her sisters-in-law Ruby Cronk of Keswick, VA., Catherine Southerland of Taylors, SC., Jaunita Elliott of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Bettyann Dietrich of Chester, SC; and her brother-in-law, Walter Porter, of Newman, GA.

She leaves many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at Arlington National Cemetery on (insert date) by The Moseley Funeral Home, Columbia, SC..

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to The Dementia Society of America or The St. Judes Children Hospital in her name.
