Sidney Seymour Locke Sr. died on April 12, 2025. He was born in Elberton, GA on December 4, 1940. He was the son of Sarah and Pete Locke.
Mr. Locke went to the public schools in Elberton and graduated from the University of Georgia in Athens with a BS in Chemistry. He later received a Masters of Education and six year certificate from the University of South Carolina.
After serving two years in the United States Army Infantry he moved to Camden, SC in 1965 to work for the DuPont chemical company. Mr. Locke was active in the Camden Jaycees, the American Chemical Society and the Camden Toastmasters.
He married a teacher, Henrietta Smith of Columbia, SC in 1970. He later joined her as a teacher and retired from Richland School District II in 2001.
Mr. Locke is survived by his wife of 54 years, son Sidney S. Locke Jr. and wife Anna Tisdale Locke, daughter Kelley Locke Poles and husband Ryan Michael Poles, grandchildren , Ella Kathleen, Jackson Sayle and Camden Elisabeth Poles. He was predeceased by brothers Barry and Nelson Locke.
The family enjoyed water sports – skiing, fishing, canoeing and swimming - on Lake Wateree. Mr. Locke was an active long-term tennis player.
Mr. Locke served on the board of directors of God’s Storehouse in NE Columbia, the board of directors of the Lake Wateree Homeowners Association and delivered Meals on Wheels.
