Shirley Roberts Elmore

A graveside service for Shirley Roberts Elmore will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Sightler Cemetery. The service will be officiated by Chief Barry Anderson. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Moseley Funeral Home.

Shirley was born in Columbia on September 22, 1937, in a 2-bedroom house on Huger Street. She was the second-born of six daughters of Elmer and Magdalene Sightler Roberts. Shirley and her five sisters sang gospel music together and were known as “The Roberts Family.” Music always played a large part in her life. Shirley could play the piano by ear, and until very recently, the residents and staff at NHC enjoyed listening to her play.

She enjoyed working at Columbia Mills and Still Hopes throughout her career, as well as serving as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader. Her greatest joy, however, was taking care of her family and others.

Shirley was married to Jimmy W. Elmore, Sr., for 67 years until his death in 2020. They met through mutual friends in high school.

Those left to mourn her loss are her sons, Jimmy Wesley Elmore, Jr., and Charles Robert Elmore (Melissa); and her daughter, Tammy Jean Hulon (Web). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Erika (Bobby), Savannah (Will), Tzedi, Levi, Laci (Guy), Evan, Makhir, Israel, and Daniel; her great-grandchildren, Serenity, Ryker, Aaron, and Jonah; and her sisters, Margaret Clark, Patsy Sharpe, and Becky Turner, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Barbara Smith and Frances Lynch, and a great-granddaughter, Alizia.

Shirley was loved by many and she will be missed by all.
