Scott Gary Weissman

July 29, 1961 — September 29, 2021

Scott Gary Weissman was born the youngest of four sons to Harriet and Marvin Weissman on July 29, 1961 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He lost his battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by family, on September 29, 2021.
Scott spent his younger years traveling with his family due to his father Marvin's Navel career. Once Marvin retired, after his final tour in Hawaii, the family laid their roots. Scott spent a lot of time in the water whether it was on the swim team, being a lifeguard, or body surfing at Sandy Beach, the water brought him great joy. After attending Radford Highschool he answered a call to serve his country by joining the Air National Guard. In May of 1982 he went to the Bellows Beach with a friend to meet other friends. He needed a pair of "slippas" to go into a store and he borrowed Charlene's "slippas". That is what started their love story. On September 6, 1986 Scott and Charlene were married in front of a waterfall in Honolulu, Hawaii. Scott became a husband and stepfather to Steve, Fred, and Iris that day. They however were never step children to him, they were "his kids". Loving and teaching them the things only great fathers can. Their family was complete. In 1992 they left Hawaii and made the long cross country haul to Columbia, South Carolina. They would eventually build a home in Irmo, South Carolina and start the next chapter of their lives. Scott built a career as a food equipment service technician, known throughout the industry for his impeccable work ethic, knowledge, and charismatic personality. In his free time he loved spending time with family and friends, whether it was just talking, fishing, camping, watching grandchildren play sports, shooting or watching his Kansas City Chiefs play football, he was always the life of the party. Scott never met a stranger and could make you laugh until your sides hurt. The world has truly lost an amazing gift as that is what he was to all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Weissman and his brother, Ed Weissman.
Left to cherish Scotts memory is his wife, Charlene Weissman; mother, Harriet Weissman; brothers, Steve Weissman and Bob Weissman (Judy); his children, Steve Grissom (Stephanie), Fred Grissom and Iris Farrell (Kai); grandchildren, Kai Kea, Freddy, Mahealani, Colton, Devin, Peyton and Kianna.
A drop in Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at the home of Steve and Stephanie Grissom, 208 Haleywood Ln. West Columbia, SC 29170 .
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
