Richard A. Clauss, 72, of Irmo, South Carolina, entered into his heavenly home on June 9, 2024.
Richard was born on August 14, 1951, in Elizabeth, NJ, and was the son of Jessie and Henry Clauss, and the brother of Carl F. Clauss.
A proud Navy Vietnam veteran who loved God, his country, and his family. Richard loved sharing his faith and relationship with Jesus and was passionate about the gospel message. He previously served on the ambulance corps, attended missionary trips and helped with VBS, hosted bible studies, taught Sunday school and led the youth group program, and volunteered at a women’s pregnancy care center.
Richard recently attended Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Irmo, SC, and loved singing in their choir. He was an avid and lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and loyal best dog friend Bonnie; golfing, going to the beach, camping, fishing, hiking, cooking, dancing and singing, board games, attending church, and playing pinochle with his brother Carl. A lover of chocolate, never a vegetable; coffee fanatic, wanted his steaks served still mooing, and an unapologetic NJ native. Richard lived in Texas for over 10 years and enjoyed the friendships that became family while living in Dallas, and as a member of DCS.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father; his brother; and his grandson, Elijah Powell.
Richard is survived by his daughter Candace Powell and his son-in-law Joshua Powell, daughter Patricia Greeby and son-in-law Christopher Greeby, his grandchildren Audriana and Elisha Powell, his bonus daughter Kimberly Schroeder and her family, niece Katherine Whitt and her family, his cousin Tom Scheidler, and other loved ones.
Burial will be on Tuesday, June 18th at 2:00 pm at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC. The family gratefully declines flowers and donations, but prayers, condolences, and memories are gladly accepted at www.moseleyfuneralservice.com/obituary/RichardA-Clauss
