A memorial service for Mary Jean "Mickey" Jolley, of Columbia, will be held at 3pm on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at International Family Church, 1311 Marley Dr., Columbia, SC 29210. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Mrs. Jolley passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at the age of 82. Born in Tacoma, WA, on January 14, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Clifford C. Brammer and Genevieve Stone Brammer Norman. She was their only child. Her parents divorced before her second birthday.
She graduated from high school at the age of 14, received a bachelor’s degree at 17, and her master’s degree in nursing at 19, all with honors.
She married Douglas C. Jolley in 1954. Mr. Jolley was an Air Force officer stationed at McChord Field. She carried six children to full or near full-term, including a set of twins, but only one child survived, her son Douglas Bryan, who was born in 1959. They adopted a daughter Susie in 1965 in Omaha, where Mr. Jolley was stationed at the time. They divorced in 1972, and shortly thereafter, she moved back to her original home in Washington state, living in Lynwood, WA, until 2004.
In 2004, Mickey moved to Columbia, SC, to be near her son Doug and his family, and lived independently in an apartment near them. In 2011, she moved to the Brian Center Nursing Home, where she stayed until her passing.
Mickey was known for her intellect, her ever-present sense of humor, and her deep and abiding love of God. She made friends easily everywhere she went, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mickey is survived by her son, Doug Jolley and his wife Jan of Columbia, SC; her daughter, Susie James of Fayetteville, NC; her grandson, Jonathan Jolley and his wife Lila; and great-granddaughter, Fiona.
