Michelle D. Steele

Michelle D. Steele, 58, of Cayce, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025.

Born to the late John Smoak Dukes, Jr. and Mabel Whittle Dukes, Michelle will be remembered for her kind heart, gentle nature, and the love she shared so freely with others. She brought warmth and laughter to everyone who knew her and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Michelle had a creative spirit and a special talent for painting. She found joy and peace in her artwork, and her paintings reflected the beauty and thoughtfulness that she carried through life. She was fortunate to find friendship in Rebecca "Tinker" Rumler who was there for her in her final years as her roommate and closest friend.

She is survived by her two sisters, Shiela Dukes and Barbie Dukes Sturkie, both of West Columbia, South Carolina; her nieces, Amanda Niccum (Kevin) and Jess Kennedy (Nick); and her nephew, Josh Sturkie (Becky). She was preceded in death by her parents.

A private family service will be held to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to a charity of one’s choice in Michelle’s memory.
