Marian (Mccarty) Rister

December 2, 1927 — March 16, 2020

Marian McCarty Rister , 92, of West Columbia, SC passed away Monday , M arc h 16 , 2020. She was born on December 2, 1927 in Ridge Spring, SC to the late Simeon and Blanche Padgett McCarty. She was the sixth child out of ten children.

Marian faithfully served Jesus Christ throughout her life . A s she lost her eyesight due to macular degeneration, she studied her Bible lessons by cassette tape and later by CD’s. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Lexington and the Love Sunday School Class. Sh e grew up on a farm and was use to hard work . After her mother died at only 48 years old, she helped raise her four younger siblings . Throughout her life, s he loved spending time with her children and grandchildren . For over 25 years, s he enjoyed the monthly get togethers with her siblings and their spouses at Jackie Hite’s and Shealy’s Bar-B-Que Restaurants in Batesburg-Leesville .

Marian graduated from Ridge Spring High School in 1945 when they only had eleven grades to complete in school. After graduating, s he began working at a sewing room in Batesburg, then Johnston Woolen Mill , and later Carolyn Chenil l e prior to marrying Franklin Delano Rister on October 26, 1958. She worked part-time at JB White in Columbia and retired from Sears , Roebuck and Co. catalog department in Rock Hill, SC in 1991.

Marian is survived by her children Barry Franklin Rister of the home and Teresa Rister Nirenstein of North Myrtle Beach and her special friend David Carter Williams of Little River; grandchildren , Morgan Nirenstein Youngerman (Stephen) of Myrtle Beach and Darcy Noelle N irenstein of North Myrtle Beach; sisters, Frances McCarty Crouch, of Saluda and Van Rae Bledsoe of Lexington . In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Delano Rister ; brothers, Willie Tyrone McCarty, Simeon Bruce McCarty, Thomas Lee McCarty, Major Van McCarty, Sim “Yank” McCarty , and Franklin Delano “Dick” McCarty ; and a sister, Julia McCarty Boozer .

Funeral Services will be held at Fellowship Baptist Church, 4238 Augusta Road, Lexington SC 29073 on Friday , March 20 , 20 20 , at 2:00 p m, with visitation at 12:30 pm prior to the service. Burial will be at Celestial Memorial Gardens, 3111 Delree Street, West Columbia, SC 29170 following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund or Boys Farm, Post Office Box 713, Newberry, SC 29108.
