In Loving Memory of Linda Bridges Hinks, a beacon of love, laughter, and cherished memories, graced this world on September 1, 1943, and peacefully passed away on May 2, 2024. Her departure leaves behind a legacy of warmth and affection that will forever be treasured by those whose lives she touched.
Born and raised in Blacksburg, South Carolina, Linda was the beloved daughter of Thomas Virgil Bridges and Sarah Spratt Bridges. She embodied the virtues of devotion, compassion, and kindness from a young age, becoming a devoted daughter, sister, wife, grandma/gma, and friend.
Linda's pride and joy were her sons, John Whitley Hinks Jr. and Whitley Bridges Hinks, who brought immense happiness and pride into her life. She welcomed her daughters-in-law, Britt Hinks and Aimee Hinks, with open arms, embracing them as cherished members of her family. The arrival of her five grandchildren, Jack, Lucy, Grayson, Brooks, and Eleanor, brought Linda immeasurable joy and fulfillment. She cherished every moment spent with them, creating enduring memories that will forever be cherished by her family.
Linda's nurturing spirit extended far beyond her immediate family; she became a mother figure to many, welcoming her sons' friends with open arms and treating them to her famous waffles and bacon, all while providing them with unwavering love and guidance.
Early in her life, Linda pursued her education at Winthrop College and eventually earned her certification as a radiologist tech and dedicated several years to the medical field. Later, she played a pivotal role in helping to run the family business alongside her beloved husband, John. While John led from the forefront, Linda was the backbone, tirelessly ensuring the smooth operation of their endeavors. From overseeing extensive renovations to hosting memorable gatherings for business associates and friends, Linda approached every task with grace and determination.
In addition to her family and career, Linda found great fulfillment in her volunteer work at Riverbanks Zoo, where she served as a docent and cared for the Siamang Gibbons. Her dedication to wildlife conservation was a testament to her compassionate nature, and she cherished her time spent at the zoo, often reminiscing fondly about her experiences.
Despite her numerous responsibilities, Linda's greatest joy came from caring for her beloved grandchildren in her later years. Her selflessness knew no bounds, as she gave tirelessly to her family and friends without expecting anything in return.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Linda's memory to Riverbanks Zoo & Gardens, a cause that was dear to her heart.
A celebration of Linda's remarkable life will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Spring Valley Baptist Church, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and celebrate the profound impact she had on all who knew her. Though she may no longer walk among us, Linda's spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched with her boundless love, generosity, and unwavering kindness.
