Linda Cardwell

June 6, 1941 — March 17, 2024

Linda Cardwell was born June 6, 1941 in Houston, TX, and died March 17, 2024 in Columbia, SC. She was predeceased by her father, mother, stepmother, brother and a stillborn daughter, Judi; She had one son, Marc Cardwell (April), and three grandchildren, Chloe Cardwell Harris (Jim), Hannah Motte (Jesse) and Zachary Cardwell.

She had a deep love and talent for all things creative: painting, drawing, knitting, and interior design. She graduated from SCAD with an MFA in design, worked for many years at Contract Interiors in Columbia, and was an active member of American Society of Interior Designers. Her home was a blend of her own creative endeavors and those of her son and grandchildren; guests were sure to find her son’s drawings framed on the wall, half-finished craft projects strewn about, recipe books and ingredients set out in preparation, and kitchenware ready to be gifted to her grandchildren as they left college dorm rooms and began to furnish their own homes.

Linda loved the Atlanta Braves, and followed professional golf and USC football. She loved animals, having a dog share her home most of her life. She longed for connection and contentment, which she found instantly when any dog crawled into her lap. She was passionate about cooking, both creating her own recipes as well as collecting others. No one could match her gift-wrapping skills.

She dearly loved her grandchildren, frequently supporting them in their academics, sporting events, and band competitions. She patiently passed on her knowledge of knitting and cross-stitch to her eldest granddaughter and delighted in hosting her grandchildren for lunch in her downtown apartment. Her knowledge of their individual taste and her love of design was evident in her excitement to discuss wedding planning with each of her granddaughters in turn
