Kenneth "Ken" Lee Stevens, Sr. died peacefully at home on December 29, 2020 in Columbia,
South Carolina supported by his loving family. He was 79 years old. A small family graveside service to be led by family friend MAJ Paul Carroll will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Celestial Memorial Gardens in West Columbia. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Jamil ShrineTemple in support of Shriners Hospital for Children.
Command Sergeant Major Stevens served 31 years active duty in the US Army and did two combat tours in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor for acts of heroism. He was awarded the Legion of Merit at his retirement for his outstanding service to his beloved USA. Ken was a dedicated Noble at Jamil Shrine Temple. He was an active member of several units. He could be seen driving his little red car around Columbia with its numerous flags flying and covered in Shriner decals.
Ken Sr. was born to the late Clara Mae Burst and Lee James Stevens of Florence, Alabama on September 16, 1941. He has a brother and sister; Jerry Stevens of Huntsville, AL and Sherry Fowler of Florence, AL. He was married to the late Frances Woodruff who passed in 2006. He later married Nancy Lanier who died in 2016. He has three children, the late Rhonda Carol Williamson, Kenneth L. Stevens, Jr. of Irmo and Teresa Ann Coleman of Warner Robins, GA; daughter-in-law Loyda Stevens and son-in-law Kevin Coleman. He has five grandchildren: Joshua Stevens, Katie Cupach-Smith, Britney Williamson Bundrick, Hannah Cupach-Ulrich, and Jim Williamson IV. Ken Sr. has eight great-grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of life gathering for family and friends to be held at a later date.
