It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Katherine Deloris Powell, a cherished mother, grandmother,sister and friend. She departed this world on December 22, 2023 at 85 years old. Katherine was born in Columbia, SC on October 21, 1938 to Gertrude and Howard Powell.
Katherine (or Mimi as her grandkids called her) was a pillar of strength and love for her family. Her warm smile and kind heart endeared her to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She dedicated her life to nurturing and caring for her family, and her legacy of love will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
One of Katherine's greatest passions was the cooking, or more specifically baking. Her kitchen was a place of magic, where the aroma of her delicious creations filled the air, creating memories that linger in the minds of her loved ones. Whether it was holiday treats or a cake because it was Tuesday and she wanted one, Katherine poured her love into every dish, creating a bond that transcended generations.
Her talents extended beyond the kitchen; Katherine was also an avid crafter and painter. Her creative spirit knew no bounds, and she spent countless hours crafting and painting, expressing herself through art. Her handmade creations were not just objects; they were tokens of love and artistry that will be cherished by her family for years to come.
Katherine leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and creativity. She is survived by daughter Katherine (Charles) Fritz, son John Garner, brothers Hallie (Pat) Powell, Roger (Cindy) Powell, grandchildren Michelle (Beau) Moreland, Chad Porter, Jessica Wright, Lorne (Merideth) Porter, Alex Wright, Audrey Bolick, Madison McCormak, 5 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Karen Garner, sisters Deborah Pender, Mary Whisenant, Linda Powell and brothers Travis Powell, Howard Powell.
A memorial service to celebrate Katherine's life will be held on January 6, 2024 at 1pm at 2507 Cedar Grove Rd., Leesville, SC 29070. Friends and family are invited to join in remembering the remarkable woman who touched our lives in such profound ways.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Lung Association in Katherine Powell's honor.
Though Katherine may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will forever live on in the love she shared, values she instilled,the traditions she lovingly upheld, meals she prepared, and the beautiful creations she brought to life. May she rest in eternal peace.
