Our family sadly announces the passing of Joyce Grice DuBois. Joyce died peacefully surrounded by her children and friends on the evening of December 10th at the Blake in Elgin SC, her residence for her last 3 years. Joyce was a humble, loving mother who lived a simple life.  She will be remembered for her kindness to others, her involvement with her church, the many charities she supported, her work with the food bank, arrangingspeakers for the senior center, as an election pole worker, and for organizing family reunions.

Born Oct. 14, 1934, to Effie Lou and Joseph A. Grice, Joyce grew up with her identical twin sister in Groveland Ga. Graduating in 1951 from Bryan County High School, she moved to Savannah to pursue business school, prior to her long administrative career with the FBI, the IRS, and the Department of Defense. Joyce married Marvin U DuBois on Sept. 4, 1955. They followed each other in their career moves and raised 3 children in places including Statesboro GA, Savannah GA, Tucker GA, Jacksonville FL, Newport News VA, and Alexandria VA. In 1994 both Joyce and Marvin retired to their hometown of Pembroke GA. Following Marvin’s death in 1998, Joyce led a life of service to her community. In 2020 she moved to Elgin SC to be closer to her children.

Surviving Joyce are her sister JoAnn Lanier of Savannah GA, three children: Marvin DuBois, Jr (Cheryl) of Irmo SC, Terry DuBois (Tracy) of Maryland; and Cathy Scott (Tim) of Blythewood SC; six grandchildren: Allison vanDalen (Andrew); Ross DuBois (Natalie); McKenzie Scott; Robert Scott (Katelyn), Stephanie Scott, and Matthew DuBois; and two great-grandchildren: Margot vanDalen and Annabelle Scott.

A graveside funeral will be held Sunday Dec 17, 2023 at 2pm in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah Ga. Afterward her friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life at the Pirate’s House.

In lieu of flowers you may donate to the First Baptist Church of Pembroke GA. Moseley Funeral Home of West Columbia SC is facilitating the services.
