Johnny Murphy

Johnny Carlton Murphy of West Columbia passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024. Johnny was born on January 21, 1953, in Kershaw, SC to John Clayton Murphy and Magdalene "Peggy" Catoe Murphy. When Johnny was younger, he worked at Granby Pacific Mills, in Olympia, SC. After the mill closed, he helped his wife run their produce business, Murphy's Produce, inLugoff, SC, later moving the business to West Columbia, SC. He then took a job atUS Foods in Lexington, SC where he retired in 2016. Since retirement, Johnny enjoyed"loafing the roads"with Beth, his wife of 52 years. Also, after his retirement, Johny became an incredible caregiver to Beth, demonstrating a depth of love that is hard to explain with words, but a love that everyone should be lucky enough to experience in their lifetime. Johnny enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, both of which he was very proud, tinkering onhis many projects in the yard, watching NASCAR, and Gamecock football. Johnny is survived by his wife, Beth Baker Murphy, his daughter, Carla Bond (Terry), his son, Clay Murphy, grandsons Trevor Bond and Chace Bond, brother Michael Murphy (Karen), sisters Sue Howell (Dedrick) and Rhonda Bowen, his brother-in-law Mike Baker (Ruth), and brother-in-law George Rye (Susie), as well as many nieces and nephews. Johnny was  predeceased by his parents, and he was predeceased by his sister, Kathy Murphy, Janice Murphy, and Rita Murphy, sister-in-law, Harriet Wood, and brother-in-law, Troy Wood. The family would like toexpress their gratitude to the entire Surgical ICU staff at Lexington Medical Center, as well as Johnny's other physicians, nurses and staff at Lexington Medical Center who have provided exceptional care to him over the last few years. The visitation will be at Moseley Funeral Home in West Columbia on Tuesday, April 2 from 1:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M., followed immediately by a graveside service at Southland Memorial Gardens, in West Columbia, SC.
