John Thompson

July 13, 1930 — October 19, 2024

John Henry Thompson, 94, graduated from this life to the heaven that he so often spoke of on Saturday, October 19, 2024. He was surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Grover and Carrie Thompson and Kansas Clark. He was born on July 13, 1930. He was a tremendous man of faith and oh how much sweeter the journey that his wife of nearly 70 years was waiting for him with open arms! As for this life he said, “It has been a good ride…”.

He accomplished many things in his lifetime. He retired from the Army after 20+ years of service.  While in the Army he was a paratrooper, boxer, sergeant and a Vietnam War Veteran. He also retired from Winn Dixie after 20 years of service as a refrigeration service mechanic. He obtained a business degree from Columbia Junior College.

He was an avid man of faith and forgiveness. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church for 52 years. He loved people. He loved children. He never met a child that didn’t love him back! He loved to swing them too high, act like he was taking their candy or toy, and make them scream with laughter! He would smile so big and the kids always kept coming back for more!

He was a lover of God’s creations. He loved to hunt, fish and enjoy the wonderment God’s hands created. His faith and hopein God never wavered. He is now where his faith has ended in sight. He is with his wife and will live forever in our hearts and for eternity.

I Corinthians 13:13

And now these three remain:

Faith, Hope, and Love.  But the greatest of these is love.

Surviving are his siblings RP Thompson and Margaret Bristow. His children John M Thompson (Joan); Terry Lee Thompson (Eileen); Jackie Lynn Thompson; Linda Thompson-Chavis (Carla). His grandchildren Angel, Tyneal, Jeremy, Jessica, Brooke, Rebecca, Jennifer, Grayson and Devon. His great-grandchildren Cansis, Jacob, Marissa, Alyssa, Adam, Samuel,Braydon, Liam, Allie and Savvy.  His great-great grandchildren Dawson, Eleanor and Morgan.
