In Loving Memory of John Byron Neal, Jr. (Jack, our Daddy, Papa Jack, and Jackie)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Byron Neal Jr., 91, on October 1, 2024, in Elgin, South Carolina. He was with those he loved and passed peacefully after a life well-lived.

Jack was born on July 4, 1933, in Crescent, Oklahoma to Byron and Belle Neal. He was the oldest of six children. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and a cherished grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife Ann of 65 years, his children John “Byron” (Desi), Richard “Steven” (Leigh Anne) and Susan Neal and his grandchildren John Byron IV (Lauren), Richard, Christopher “Chick”, Tom and great grand-children, John Byron V and Gill, and many dear family members and friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.

Jack was a veteran of the Korean War. After returning home, Jack enrolled in Oklahoma State University where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Engineering. Following graduation, Jack went to work for CASE Equipment in the state of Oklahoma. In 1967, he and Ann relocated to South Carolina to open Ditch Witch of South Carolina. After selling Ditch Witch, Jack remained busy with other business ventures eventually retiring in 2006.

Known for his generosity, wise advice and steadfast dedication to family and community. Jack spent his life building meaningful relationships and touching the lives of all who knew him. Whether sharing wisdom, offering a helping hand, or simply providing a warm smile he had an enduring impact on everyone around him. Jack worked tirelessly with the Boy Scouts of America where he earned the Silver Beaver and Vigil, the highest level in the Order of the Arrow. Jack’s Vigil name was “Gracious One.” Jack was also a longtime Lion where he served as President and was awarded Lion of the Year. He sponsored countless athletic teams for the youth in his community in hopes of enhancing their lives. Jack was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge in Red Rock Oklahoma and Blythewood. Jack was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner.

The family will receive friends beginning at 11:30am, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A service will be held on Tuesday October 15, 2024, at 12:30 at Moseley Funeral Home in West Columbia, SC. Burial will follow service in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 2:00pm . The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his honor to Tunnels to Towers and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Though Jack may no longer be with us, the love, lessons, and memories he left will remain with us always. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all.
