John Louis Knight, Sr.

January 13, 1947 — February 24, 2023

John Louis Knight Sr. of West Columbia Went to home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 24, 2023. He was born January 13, 1947 to the late Howard Audway Knight Sr and Fannie Able Knight.

He joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 and served in Vietnam. He later joined the Coast Guard and continued to serve his country for total of 14 years. He was an entrepreneur that owned contracting businesses, teaching businesses, and a trucking company. He ended his career teaching motorcycle safety classes for SC Rider Education.

He was devoted to his family and loved to a fault. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were his reason for life and he was always ready to help them in anyway. His mantra was “Life is to be enjoyed, and everyday is a good day…some are just better than others.”

He is survived by his ex-wife and companion, Natividad Knight, his sons John Jr. (Mary Ellen) and William (Daphne), his daughter Michelle, his grandchildren Joshua  Knight (Danielle), Jack Cooper, Danielle Strickland (Jessica), Brittany Cox (Mel), McKenzie Pommier (Joe), Ashleigh Knight, Sean Knight, and Christopher Wertz, and his great grandchildren Emery Johnson, Blaire Cox, Tayler Pommier, Willow Dixon, Carter Pommier, and Maddie Wertz, and two nephews Robert(Sherry) and Burt. He also had many bonus grandchildren, Kalee Tharpe, Taylor Bond, James Defee, Dakoda Spires (Gabby), Montanna Spires, Josie Wilkes (Eli), and Toy Osborne (Tyler) and bonus great grandchildren, DJ, Devin, Daxton, EmilyRose, Olivia, Aubrey, Paisley, and Jaxon. Honorary survivors are his Brother-in-law, Norman Baxley, his former daughters-in-law Vickie Rikard(Kelly), Crystal Berry (Candace), former son-in-law, Sean Cooper(Carol), honorary grandsons, Mark Smith and Si Livingston. He was pre-deceased by his parents, siblings, and two nephews.

The family will hold a private memorial and internment ceremony at a later date.

They would like to thank the staff at Agape Care Hospice, Lexington Medical Center, and Dorn VA. Medical Center.
