John Henry “Jimmy” Prioleau

Mr. John Henry (Jimmy) Prioleau, departed this life on Monday, October 21, 2024 at MUSC, Farrow Road, Columbia SC. John was born on February 13, 1940 in Sumter County, SC, to the late Elias and Bealah Prioleau Sr.

John was converted at an early age and joined High Hills A.M.E. Church.  After moving to Port Chester, New York, he joined St. Frances A.M.E. Zion Church, where he served as the President of the Trustee Board for many years.  When he moved to Columbia, South Carolina he joined Rehoboth Baptist Church and served on the Usher Ministry, MORE Justice Ministry and Men ‘s Ministry.

John was employed with Arnolds Bakery for several years in the capacity as a Sanitation Supervisor for over 25 years. He retired from Arnold Bakery and moved to SC in 2011.  He loved playing baseball, golfing, bowling, fishing and spending time with his family.

He was united in marriage to Sylvia Prioleau for 28 wonderful years. He really loved his wife to the very end.

John was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers: William N. Praylow, Charlie Prioleau, Elias Prioleau Jr., James Prioleau, Paul Prioleau; Thomas Prioleau, Ervin Prioleau, three sisters: Beulah Knight, Evelyn Gadson and Juanita Orr.

John leaves to cherish many memories with his wife Sylvia Prioleau of the home address. Daughters Carla Prioleau of Mt. Vernon, NY and Jonchel Prioleau of Yonkers, NY. Two grandchildren, Shaun Prioleauand Nychel Prioleau. One sister Bertha Hunter of Wedgefield, SC. Two Honorary grandchildren: Marcus Hood and Aaron Hood.  Special nieces and nephews: Angela Hood, Louise Prioleau, EvelenaPrioleau, Willie Belle Prioleau, Willie (Billy) Prioleau, Marvin Hood Jr. and one special cousin Ceasar Thompson and a host of other relatives and friends.
