Mr. James Ray passed away Monday, March 17, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Spencer North Carolina. His hobbies included woodworking, rollerskating and bowling. Mr. Ray worked in his early years at the shipyard in Norfolk, Virginia, and in  his last job, he was responsible for upgrading a Concrete plant in the Bahamas, and he ultimately retired from Industrial Construction as an Ironwork/Millwright  Superintendent on numerous jobs for Southern Industrial and Metric Daniels, ETC. at 69.

Mr. Ray is survived by his son, Randy (Lisa) Ray, daughters, Melba Poole and Teresa Welcker; grandchildren, Lisa Boone (Rick), Michelle Jeffcoat (Michael), Billy Joe Poole and Jennifer Turner; great grandchildren, Slate and Lily Ray, Anderson and Landon Boone; sister Martha Byrd Mr. Ray is also survived by his loyal companion Bubba who was always by his side .

In addition to his loving wife of 60 years, Marlene Ray, he was proceeded in death by son, Randy Ray, 10 brothers and sisters, Buddy Ray, Charles Ray, Ann Ray, Lila Goodman, Robert Atwell, John Hancock, Gene Ray, Leon Ray, Wilhelmina  Penley and  Mildred Livesey, special son-in-law‘s William (Billy) Poole, Terry Turner and Mark Welcker.

A special thank you to Jennifer Turner for the special care she gave to her PaPa for many years prior to his death and also special thank you to 3 Oaks Hospice for an outstanding job well done with the utmost compassion.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday March 22, 2025 in the chapel of Moseley Funeral & Cremation Services at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or to a charity of ones choice.
