Jackie Kirby

Jackie Kirby of Chapin, passed away on December 15, 2018.  Jackie was born September 20, 1935 in Columbia, SC to the late Wade Hampton Atkinson and Olga Brannon Atkinson. Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Hampton “Chip” Kirby and a son, Mark Napier Kirby .

Jackie spent her career as an educator, focusing on remedial reading, after graduat ing from Newberry College and ob taining her Masters in Education from US C.  She was a dedicated teacher, often hosting summer reading camps in her home on Lake Murray.  Jackie spent many years working with the Richland County Adult Literacy Program.  She was a member of Saint Thomas Lutheran Church in Chapin, SC.

She is survived by her sons, Benjamin Hampton (Susan Laney) of Chapin SC., and Paul Duncan (Susan Jones) of Pelion, SC., six gr and children: Alex (Faith), Jacob, Zachary, Abby (Justin Martin ), Katelyn and Savannah ; and three great grandchildren , Payton Kirby, Zoey Martin and Sage Kirby due in March.

Funeral Service is to be held at Saint Thomas Lutheran Church on Thursday, December 20 th at 11am with burial at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Saint Thomas Lutheran Church, Chapin SC. 215 Saint Thomas Church Road, Chapin, SC  29036.

The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.  We are confident that we will see both Jack ie and Chip again because of their faith in Jesus Christ.  We would also like to thank Moseley Funeral Home for their assistance.
