Herbert B. Allen, Jr.

Herbert Bland Allen, Jr, Columbia, SC, age 72, passed away suddenly on Friday morning February 12, 2021.  Mr. Allen was a graduate of the Citadel class of 1970.  He proudly served in the United States Army, the South Carolina Army National Guard, and the US Army Reserve for over 32 years of total service.  His Army service included a combat tour in Viet Nam and a tour of duty in Uzbekistan during the War on Terro r.  He was also retired from his civilian position with the Department of the Army. In addition to his undergraduate degree from the Citadel, Mr. Allen held Masters degrees in Public Administration and International Studies from the University of South Carolina. Mr. Allen is predeceased by his parents, COL Herbert B. and Eleanora K. Allen, and by his first wife, Lydia Shuler Allen. He is already missed by his loving wife Patricia Upton and his many friends .  Funeral arrangements are being handled by Moseley Funeral and Cremation Service in West Columbia.
