Grady Frank King, Sr. of Cayce passed away Friday May 5, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Grady was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary Lee King, and his son, Frank King, Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Pat Townsend (David) and the love of his life for the past 16 years, Madalyn Dybvik. He was "Pop K" to his 4 granddaughters, Lisa Hilborn (Matt), Christy Sherman (Jin), Crystal King, Tracy King and 7 great grandchildren. He was blessed to be embraced and loved by Madalyn's daughters and their families. He was "Pop Grady" to Melanie and Bruce Burnette, Marla Cohee, Melissa and Daryl Johnson and their children and grandchildren. They were his "second family" and he loved them all. Grady was
predeceased by sisters, Louise Mosteller and Chlorine Travis and his brothers Jack and Dean King.
Grady was born to the late Latha and Sallie Case King on August 6, 1925 in Hendersonville, NC. He lived in Charlotte until 1965 and then moved to Cayce.
A truck driver by trade, Grady was also a "shade tree" mechanic and loved working on cars. He later switched to small engine repair and was the neighborhood "lawn mower repair man". Grady loved a challenge, and there were few, if any, small engines he could not repair. When finished the pieced looked brand new. He took great pride in his work, and often said, "if its worth doing, its worth doing right". When he wasn't working in his garage, he enjoyed NASCAR and working in his vegetable garden. At 91 years of age, he was still climbing ladders to clean the roof or to cut tree limbs with a chain saw. But, above all, he loved helping others.
His family expresses their deep appreciation to April Begunov, Jason Austin, and Chaplain Maurice Webber from Rest Assured Hospice for the excellent care and love they showed Grady in his final weeks.
Grady was steadfast in his love for the Lord. During the past year he assured us he was at peace, that he had a good, long life, and when the Lord wanted him, he was ready to go.
