Godwin Daniel Brophy

May 21, 1940 — April 24, 2017

Godwin "Daniel" Leonard Brophy was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late Godwin Leo and Ethel Blake Brophy on May 21, 1940. He entered Heaven's gate on Monday, April 24, 2017 from the comfort of his home. Dan is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Yong K. Brophy. They met and married while he was stationed in Seoul, South Korea. Also surviving are his sister, Sheila Andersen; his children Daniel Byrnes, Brian Byrnes, Tracey Rennie LaGrand and Kimberly Brophy Lee; his grandchildren Jordan Lee, Jacob Lee, Makayla LaGrand and Jade Lee; and his "old army buddy" John Lloyd. Predeceased is his daughter Young Mi Brophy. From a young age, Dan was an independent, tough, determined and strong willed person. He was an intelligent, brave and loyal soldier in the U.S. Army even after his full retirement in 1992. A few of his services in the Army include the 82nd Airborne Division, 7th Infantry, Drill Sergeant, USFK Customs Inspector and NCOIC. Dan will be greatly missed by his friends and family. A service to celebrate Dan's life will be held 11:00 am Monday, May 1st, 2017 at Calvary United Methodist Church in Swansea, SC with burial to be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on 1:00 pm Tuesday, May 2nd,2017 with full military honors.
