Listen to Obituary

Frances Harrison Vining, 84 years of age, of West Columbia, SC, passed peacefully on September 8, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Lunette Derrick Harrison. A lifelong resident of West Columbia, she was a 1960 graduate of Brookland Cayce High School and a graduate of Midlands Technical College. Frances worked as an auditor for Midlands Technical College for 20+ years. She was an active member of Grace Chapel in Dixiana, SC where she loved serving in many capacities influencing literally hundreds with the love of Christ. Her primary passion was starting and directing Pioneer Girls, and similar youth programs, for over 35 years. She also greatly enjoyed teaching preschoolers in Sunday school for 40+ years. Her many talents included creating and directing many children’s programs for the Pioneer Girls and VBS. Frances enjoyed many activities – she loved to fish, all University of South Carolina sports, reading, taking care of her pets, feeding/watching the wild birds, gardening and family outings, especially at the lake, to name a few.

Frances is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 65 years, George. Their love and sacrifice for each other and those around them exemplified their love of Jesus to so many, especially their surviving children, George Earl(Roberta), Joby(Beth) and Heather(Todd), her brother, Robert Harrison, her nine grand children and five great grandchildren.

G’ma, as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, will be forever remembered as one who truly believed that Jesus died for her sins, rose from the grave and thus, provided THE way to be eternally with Him. Her faith was exhibited by a lifetime of service to Jesus with all her heart, mind and strength and by loving others. The family prays that her influence will continue to lead people to Jesus.

Visitation will begin at 12 noon on September 12, 2026 at Grace Chapel followed by the funeral service at 1:00 pm. A brief graveside service will be performed at the church immediately following the funeral service. Pastor James Jones will officiate the funeral services. If desired, memorials can be made to Grace Chapel.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Moseley Funeral & Cremation Service 914 Meeting St. West Columbia, 29169 (803) 794-1743.
