Ernest S. Kachline

Ernest S. Kachline “Cos”, 91, of West Columbia, SC and Summit, NJ died peacefully on July 21,2016.

Ernie was born Oct 2, 1924 in Quakertown, PA the son of Hiram and Florence Kachline. After graduating from Quakertown HS, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from Albright College and went on to earn a Master’s in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania.

In 1943 Ernie enlisted in the Navy and served his country as an officer for three and a half years.

Ernie retired in 1982 after 18 years with Towers Perrin, Foster and Crosby, of New York City, an insurance and employee benefits consulting firm. He was Principal and Vice-President, during which time he and his family resided in Summit, NJ.

Ernie was known as a kind, humble man with a passion for all sports and the outdoors. He was a loving father, grandfather, and brother. He was an active, enthusiastic member of his current church, Seven Oaks Presbyterian in West Columbia, SC, and an Elder with Central Presbyterian Church in Summit, NJ. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his five children; Leslie Kerby (Jim), Kim Omae, Nancy Kachline-Fallman (Howard), Jim Kachline (Ginger), Heidi Hanley (Jim); twelve grandchildren; three siblings, Tom Kachline, Arlene Loehrig, and Loretta (Bill) King; and, many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at on Saturday, July 23 at 3:30pm at Laurel Crest, 100 Joseph Walker Drive, West Columbia, SC.

In his memory, donations may be made to Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church, Habitat for Humanity or to a charity of your choice.
