Elma Kennedy

Elma Carolyn Kennedy, known to all as Carolyn, passed away on June 15th, 2025 in Columbia, South Carolina at the age of 86. Carolyn was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri in 1938. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Louisville, Kentucky where Carolyn would spend her childhood and attend primary, middle and high school. Upon graduation, Carolyn pursued her love of medicine by becoming a Registered Nurse through Kentucky Baptist Hospital. Those who knew Carolyn found her to be a tireless worker, resourceful and independent and devoted to her family. She loved a good meal, a good board game and a good glass of wine.

Carolyn was a dedicated mother who left nursing with the birth of her first child in 1967. She is survived by her brother CJ, her sister Kate, her sons Tim and Craig Kennedy, and her daughter Kristine Kennedy. She was preceded in death by her father Clement Koerber and her mother, Elma Heuer Koerber.

Carolyn was happiest when she was active. She was an avid collector and refinisher of antique furniture, a tireless worker about the house and yard and a caregiver for many a stray pet. She was also a devout member of St. Paul Lutheran church in Columbia, SC, and Redeemer Lutheran church in Atlanta, GA.

A memorial service to honor her life will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Atlanta at a date to be confirmed. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to any local no-kill animal shelter in her memory.

Moseley Funeral and Cremation in Columbia, South Carolina, is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
