ELEANOR FRICK RHODES
September 29, 1930 - February 10, 2021
Chapin, SC - Eleanor Frick Rhodes, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.
She was born to the late Bessie (Arnold) and Lester E. Frick. In 1954, she married the late Kenneth E. Cope, who was serving in the US Army, and accompanied him on tours to various locations such as Germany and Texas. In 1960, Eleanor moved to Washington, DC and assumed an administrative position in the US Senate. In 1965, she married the late Jim Rhodes, a TV cameraman for NBC News. After retiring in 1988 and moving back to Chapin, she returned to Washington to work on campaign re-elections to the US Senate. Eleanor taught Sunday School for many years. After retiring in Chapin, she was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where she was a member of Primetimers and served on numerous committees. Eleanor served on the Finance Committee of Palmetto Health Foundation and she volunteered for events benefiting Children’s Hospital. Eleanor loved spending time with her family and hosting family gatherings at her beautiful home on Lake Murray. Other interests were reading, playing bridge, golf and gardening.
She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Cope Britton, and a sister, Martha Glymph, both of Chapin. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth (Rhett) Cope, a granddaughter, Christine Cope, and her beloved four-legged companion, Max.
A graveside service will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Chapin, South Carolina on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. , by Rev. David Tholstrup.
