Doris Wadford

July 14, 1934 — March 17, 2025

Doris Edwards Wadford, Wife of Mitch Wadford for over 67 years, died on March 17, 2025.  Born on July 14, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Wilson Edwards and Elsie Wofford Edwards of Tryon, North Carolina. She was predeceased by her brother, Fred Edwards, and sister- in-law Shirley Edwards of Tryon, N. C. Graveside Services will be held Friday, March 21 at 11am at Celestial Memorial Gardens, 3111 Delree Street, West Columbia. Chaplain Brookland Smith will preside. Moseley Funeral & Cremation Service is in charge.

She is survived by her husband Calep M.Wadford, son Thomas M. Wadford(Tom) and his wife Ramona,daughter Pamella Wadford(Pam),sister MaryAnne Rush, and nieces and nephews.

Doris was a faithful and loving wife. Doris graduated from Tryon High School. She then attended Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing and was the first to graduate with complete Honors in 1955. Doris worked in California, North Carolina, and South Carolina. She served as Executive Director for Midlands Nursing Association and worked with the South Carolina Nurses Association. Doris retired as the Director of Employee Health Services at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.

Doris was a caring, giving employee and helpedto support the employee assistance program with the purchases of mediations, diapers, and formula. She helped start the Employee Wellness Program in South Carolina. She loved her patients, cared for them and was their greatest cheerleader.

She participated as a volunteer nurse with West Columbia Little League, Middle School and Brookland Cayce High School Band. She was volunteer camp nurse for Band Camp, and a substitute teacher. She loved crafting, cross-stitch, and anything to do with outdoors.

The family thanks the staff at the Columbia Presbyterian Community for their love, kindness, and care.
