Donald I. "D.I" Blackwell, 78, of Cayce passed away on Tuesday. Born in Rutherfordton, N.C. He was the son of the late Lonnie I. and Mary Edwards Blackwell. He attended Baton Elementary school and Hudson High School where he drove a school bus, a graduate of USC. He served in the U.S Army. He retired from 57 years of the law enforcement, serving at Richland County Sheriff Department, city of Columbia P.D, city of Cayce P.D, and Lexington Sheriff Department. He was also Deputy with the U.S Marshall Service. A lifetime member of South Carolina International association of Identification (SCIAI) and (I.A.I).A member of first Baptist Church of Cayce.
Surviving is the wife of 38 years, Linda Mungo Blackwell. Daughter Donna Watson, and Son Lee Blackwell (Emily) of Tennessee. Sisters Louise Walker, Ellen Stoss (Bill), Mary Sue "Susie" Minton (Jack), Judie Craver, a brother Billy Blackwell, all of North Carolina. A aunt Estella Bryant. Grandchildren Nick, Abbie, Hannah Watson, Justin, Jordan, Mark, Caleb, Reaghan Blackwell. A number of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, a sister Cornelia "Neil" Murhpy, and a nephew Steven Chester.
Memorial Service Saturday October 13 at First Baptist Church of Cayce at 11 am.
