Cynthia Ann Hicks Oswald
November 30, 1949 — March 27, 2021
Cynthia H. Oswald, 71, of West Columbia SC, joined her loving husband Robert L Oswald Sr. on March 27, 2021. She was born in Greenville SC to the late Rev Lloyd E and Rae Nell Snelgrove Hicks .
As a teenager, Cindy grew up in a family of six children with a Southern Baptist Pastor for a father. In her early adult years, Cindy began serving as the pianist for Joel Baptist Church, at the request of her father who was Pastor of the church.
Cindy married Robert L Oswald, Sr. on November 22, 1967 at Joel Baptist Church and they continued serving their together as husband and wife. They followed her family to Sunset Boulevard Baptist Church, where Reverend Lloyd Hicks became the pasto r, and she continued serving the Lord faithfully in many ways the Lord called her to do.
Upon the unexpected passing of her father, she continued serving faithfully while helping her mother raise the three children added to the family before his passing.
Robert and Cindy were blessed with three children as they continued serving the Lord as a family. After the untimely death of her husband in July 1999, she continued to faithfully served the Lord in all the ways she could while at Sunset Boulevard Baptis t Church, Green Hill Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Columbia and finally Pelion Baptist Church.
The Lord blessed her with many talents including music and teaching. She served the Lord using those talents by teaching Sunday School, Training Union , Children ’ s classes, Vacation Bible School, Youth Groups and Young Adult classes, and built Christian relationships with other women through the programs like the WMU (Women Missions Union).
Reflecting upon her life, Jesus’ parable in Mark 4:3-8 comes t o mind.
Cindy was a Sower of the Seed. She spread the Seed of God's Word and the plan of Salvation through Jesus Christ through the fields of her life. Some seeds fell in places where it never took and others placed where it grew but withered away. Many s eeds fell upon the fertile soil where it grew roots deep within the soil and they become fruitful. The seeds she had sown produced radiant flowers for the Lord to smile upon.
Her Sowing of God’s Word, touched the lives of many people – from children, yout h, young and senior adults – and that Seed grew in their hearts and transformed their lives to become fruitful Children of the Lord. As to borrow a phrase from a friend of hers, “These are Cindy’s flowers.”
Cindy is survived by her two son s and daughter. Robert L Oswald Jr ( Trisha) of Lexington , SC; Brian O’neal Oswald ( Rayena ) of Cayce, SC; Leanne Oswald Snelgrove (Jason) of West Columbia, SC. Her life blessed the lives of her children, her eight grandchildren and her six brothers and two sisters.
