Clarence Melton “Mel” Atkinson, Sr.

The Memorial Service for Clarence Melton Atkinson, Sr.; 98, will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Crossroads World Outreach Center on Emmanuel Church Road. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm prior to the service.
Mel, known to all as an exuberant and joyful man, peacefully passed away from earth and opened his eyes in Heaven on Saturday, June 12, 2021. He was surrounded by his loving family at his eldest son’s home.
Mel was the son of the late Shepherd Ross Atkinson and Sara Roma Henderson Atkinson. Mel dearly loved Clara Atkinson, his beloved wife of 78 years who had passed away the previous year. He is survived by his brother K.D. Atkinson (Dorothy); brother, Charles Atkinson; sister, Sue Atkinson Mullins daughter, Delores Cook (Gurney); daughter, Glennis Feagin (Ashton); son, C.M. Atkinson (Janet); daughter, Michelle Wood and son, Mark Atkinson. He had ten grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren and five great-great children who all called him “Papaw” and loved him tremendously. His number of nieces, nephews was great as was the number of friends was beyond measure as Mel was greatly loved and admired universally.
Memorials may be made to Crossroads World Outreach Center.

The family would also like to express deep gratitude to Renee Davis for her friendship and love for Mama and Daddy over the years and for her exceptional and compassionate care for Daddy in his final days.”
