Chris Matras, a Computer Systems Administrator died unexpectedly of a heart attack on July 20, 2015 at the age of 50 while in Miami for business.
Chris is survived by his loving wife, Judy Matras, his mother, JoAnn Matras. He is predeceased by his father, Lawrence Matras and his brother, Kevin.
Chris was born in Beaufort South Carolina on October 18, 1964 to Lawrence and JoAnn Matras. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1985 with a degree in Computer Science. During his career he worked at NCR, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Flextronics and most recently as Computer System Administrator at the Federal Public Defender, District of South Carolina. On July 25, 1987, he married Judy, the IT manager at the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina. They met while attending USC and became best friends before deciding to marry. Chris and Judy shared their home and their love with their many cats and dogs through the years.
Chris loved to fly. He was an Instrument Rated private pilot that was very active in the Commercial Pilots Forum. He was proud to have flown into many of the largest airports on the east coast and loved taking friends up for flights in his Mooney. He enjoyed travel, golf, and games with his friends. His goal was to visit all seven continents and he made it to four. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
A visitation will be held from 1-2 pm with a funeral service to follow at 2:30pm on Friday July 31, 2015, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 1416 Broad River Road, Columbia SC 29210 with Pastor John Trump officiating. Last rites will be held at 4 pm at Woodridge Memorial Park at 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington SC 29072. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Andrews Lutheran Church – Pastor’s Discretionary Fund to be later donated to a charitable cause meaningful to Chris.
