Memorial services for Charles Auguste Houde, 88, of Pelion, will be at 4 pm Tuesday at Amazing Love Outreach Center in Gaston. The family will be accepting guests at Charles’ residence immediately following the service.
Mr. Houde died Thursday, Oct 20, 2016. He was born May 18, 1928 in Quebec, Canada.
Charles will always be remembered for his love of the outdoors, animals, and medieval weaponry. He was a seasoned traveler, calling Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and New York home after coming to the U.S in 1950.
He met the love of his life, Mona Spara, in 1958. Together, Charles and Mona built a warm and loving home, which blessed them with five adoring children--Edward, Paula, Neva, April, and Jim.
Charles approached married life and fatherhood with the same dedication and loyalty that he brought to the workplace. In both spheres, he proved to be strong, committed, and steadfast.
After retiring from the Liverpool School District of New York in 1993, Charles delved into his other life passions--gardening, hunting, and fishing.
In his later years, he craved more sunshine than upstate New York could provide. After living with his dedicated son, Ed and daughter-in-law, Kathy for a time, he eventually moved to South Carolina to join his loving daughter, Paula and son-in-law Wayne.
Though a northerner by birth, Charles declared himself a honoree of South Carolina, and "Pelionite" in particular.
Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Mona Houde of Fulton, New York.
Survivors include his children--Ed and Kathy Houde of Fulton, NY, Paula and Wayne Bodie of Pelion, Neva and Dan Kennelly of Killeen, TX, April Hanson of Syracuse, NY, and Jim and Mary Houde of Liverpool, NY; dogs Baby and Bootsie Bodie of Pelion; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous friends and other loved ones.
